Be Seen

This past week I finally took the time to watch this amazing video that’s been floating on my Facebook news feed for weeks! It’s the video of Jim Carrey’s commencement speech to a group of 2014 graduates

Funny and full of thoughtful, inspirational messages, it was worth the watch… all 26 minutes and 9 seconds of it. In his speech, Carrey encourages the graduates to take a chance at going after what they want in life since, “you can fail at what you don’t want”. He also asks them to choose love over fear when plotting their life course, and the one that hit me hardest, to risk being seen. At, Carrey states, ‘to find real peace you have to let the armour go. Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world. Don’t let anything get in the way of the light that shines through this form. Risk being seen in all of your glory. Agreed! 100%. Be seen! Allow others the opportunity to experience your true self. But, I wonder, is there a risk to being seen if you endeavour to live with integrity? Integrity, as I understand it, is what’s left behind when everything else we have falls away. When we’re stripped of our armour, the big house, expensive car, name brand clothes, and fancy title. All that remains is our character, values and principles. The stuff that impacts the people we’re in relationship with. Our ability to be fair, honest, merciful, and trustworthy towards others and ourselves.

Integrity is also one of the main ideals driving INSPIREbyYBP. For those of you who asked what is INSPIREbyYBP? What does it mean? Well, INSPIRE is an acronym for the qualities we believe are necessary for success and the first ‘I’ is for integrity. In the words of Bob Marley, ‘the greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

So, what about you? Are you ready to ‘risk being seen’? Do you lead your life with integrity? Let’s talk. #INSPIREbyYBP
